Gospel Male Chorus Youth Scholarships

Prior Scholarship Recipients 

Kevin J. Levingston – of Port Arthur, TX attends East Mount Olive Baptist Church and is a student at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. where he is pursuing a career in Criminal Justice, and he has a special interest in Band as well. Mr. Levingston was encouraged to participate in the Workshop by Bro. Roberson. 

Kevontre’ Broussard – of Port Arthur, TX is a Senior at Memorial High School who has a special interest in music which shows through his involvement in the Band, the Choir, and his leadership ability as a Drum Major. He attends The Cathedral of Faith Church.  Mr. Broussard plans to pursue a career in Criminal Justice. He was encouraged to participate in the Workshop by his grandfather Rogers Harrison, Sr.

Eddie Adams – of Beaumont, TX attends Central Baptist Church in Buna, TX. He is a 2014 graduate of Buna High School and plans to pursue a career in the Navy. Mr. Adams works with Special Needs Individuals, enjoys football, and loves to sing. He was encouraged to participate in the Workshop by his grandfather Charles Albert.

Taylor GetwoodTaylor is currently a high school senior, and is attending  both Woodrow Wilson Early College High School and Memorial High School. He was referred to the scholarship program by Constable Christoper Bates and Mr. Arthur Robinson. Taylor’s involvement in school and 

community activities includes:

  • President of student council 

  • President of Men of Wilson 

  • President of the principle advisory board 

  • President of the superintendent advisory board

  • Vice-president of MHS theatre club 

  • Council Member of MHS Choir 

  • Bass/tenor-Section leader 

  • Vice-President of the Port Arthur Kappa Guide Right Chapter 

  • Co-founder/President of the MLK Youth organization 

  • Advocate for the Gift of Life 

  • Advocate for PAISD 

  • Advocate for the Port Arthur Public Library 

  • Advocate for Lamar State College Port Arthur

For school awards and honors, he has been the president of his class and student body since the 7th grade, He is the first in the district to advance to Nationals for the Texas Thespian Festival, He has advanced to state and won several times in the UIL Choir Events, and he was awarded Best Actor in UIL One Act Play.

In May 2020, he will be Graduating with his Associates Degree AND High School Diploma. Taylor plans to become a Prosperous Actor In Motion Pictures, to continue to build his leadership skills to help and better the youth of his community and nation, to come back and build his own Performing Arts/STEM school here in the city of Port Arthur , and to one day earn his Doctorate.

Deiondre’ Sowell – of Beaumont, TX attends Eastern Star Baptist Church of Port Arthur, TX and is a Senior at West Brook High School who has a special interest in football and basketball. He plans to become an entrepreneur by designing and producing his own clothing line. Mr. Sowell was encouraged to participate in the Workshop by his Sis. Mae Miller. 

Trey Nunley – Trey Nunley is a first-time scholarship applicant from Beaumont, Texas. He heard about the Gospel Male Chorus Workshop through members of his church. Trey attended Harmony Science Academy in Beaumont, and graduated in May 2018. He is in the Choir usherboard acapella group, and he plans to attend Lamar University as a psychology major, with plans to become a practicing psychologist. 

Clonie Ambrosie III – Clonie Ambroise III is a returning scholarship applicant from Port Arthur, Texas. His father, Clonie Ambroise, Jr. is also a Male Chorus participant. He attends Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, and he expects to graduate in May 2020. Clonie is a member of the Port Arthur Youth Advisory Council, and a member of Top Teens of America. In high school, he was a school member of the National Honor Society, the National Society of High School Scholars, and a member of Memorial High School Choir. Currently a Junior in college, Clonie is a member of the Student Government Association, the Wiley College Rotary Club, and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is the Associate Minister of the Mount Zion Spiritual Church in Marshall, Texas.
